...origins & the journey, thus far

Hailing from Minneapolis, Derek Jaimes is continuously pushing to achieve more success in his music career. A veteran of the Twin Cities music scene since the early 1990's, Derek has laid down the rhythmic foundation for such notable bands as: KINGFIELD, STRANGE DAZE, WILD COLONIAL BHOYS, B!, THE LANGER'S BALL, JUKEBOX ZERO, SWEET SIRENUNCLE CHUNK & LINGO. In October of 2020, he decided to take a break from live performing & focused his attention on his original studio Rock project, DAEMONAUT. In 2021, Derek became the drummer and musical director of SABBATAGE - the Twin Cities ONLY female-fronted "Deep Track" homage to the music of BLACK SABBATH. A brand new cover/tribute project is currently in the works featuring former members of JUKEBOX ZERO and LINGO called, BAD BROMANCE - an All-Male homage to the WOMEN of Pop & Rock Music of the 80's, 90's, 2000's and today. The future of all three current projects continues to progress towards the stage and beyond in 2023.

Derek Jaimes proudly uses and endorses: LUDWIG, PAISTE, DRUM WORKSHOP, LATIN PERCUSSION, REMO, VIC FIRTH, ROLAND, SHURE, GIBRALTARHUMES AND BERG & CONVERSE CHUCK TAYLORS

"Crux of Value"
The coVIDeo Sessions - (sequence 1)

Back in June of 2020...still in the thick of the pandemic...the members of DAEMONAUT simultaneously embarked on a video project to showcase 3 songs from their (still upcoming) debut album, "Interplanetary Trust Fall"

However, due to unforeseen technical difficulties compiling the footage from that session...the project was inevitably put on the shelf.

Fast forward to July of 2021...after a bout of inspirado hit...another attempt was made to resume work on the project. Low and behold...SHIT FINALLY MANAGED TO WORK!!!

The result you're about to witness, is a magnificent display in the sheer power of complete boredom...the persistence of obstinance...and the unyielding birth of (what will soon-to-be affectionately coined as) SCISSOR-ROCK!!!

...ENJOY.

'Live' performance recorded by: Daemonaut

Music mixed by: Mark LaForest

Video footage compiled and edited by: Derek Jaimes

(Additional Lead Vocals by: Baron Vonn-Halen, Part-time Cat Fighter...Dr. Hearth Sommelier & Picabo Jaymz Dio.)

Guest special appearance by: Qwerty... the cat.

"...Everybody got to deviate from the norm"

My 1st attempt at playing this song, (one of my absolute favorite RUSH songs) off their 1981 "Moving Pictures" album.

I've always had an intense connection to this particular track. Lyrically speaking, this song is a rather eerie prediction of what the world would be like in 2020. While it's not perfect, by any means...I'm rather proud of how well this video turned out. Neil Peart's passing has had quite a negative impact on me, personally. I still have difficulty in the realization that my biggest inspiration is no longer on this planet.

I wanted to pay my homage to him, and to the music of RUSH for being the soundtrack of my life.

R.I.P.  'Professor' Neil Elwood Peart

"ASSASSIN"

I'm ashamed to admit...but, I got on the MUSE bandwagon much later than I should have. Not to say I didn't like the band...(cause I did.) But, beyond their radio hits, I was never really exposed to any of their back catalog of songs. Thus, they were a band I simply overlooked back in the early-to-mid 2000's. Fast forward (to only a few years ago) when that back catalog WAS inevitably exposed to me...let's just say, I felt so very dumb for having this INCREDIBLE band somehow fly under my nose all this time!

Which brings us to this MAGNIFICENT track entitled, "Assassin". THIS was the song that opened my eyes to the sheer musical brilliance that Matt Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme and Dominic Howard possessed! Once this hit my ears...I was hooked. MUSE quickly rose up the ranks as one of my absolute favorite bands. ...EVER. I also gained a new "drum hero" in Dominic Howard's playing & unique style. This particular track is certainly no exception...a rather tricky, syncopated drum tour-de-force that is NOT an easy song to play! And again, while it's not a perfect take...I felt more PRO's than CON's with how the video eventually turned out. Using nothing more than two ZOOM Q2N cameras to capture a natural "room sound", while playing along to a "drumless" mp3 version of the recorded studio track. (I should note too: NO click track was used. Which would explain any pushing/pulling you might hear in the rhythm track.)

ALAS... I give to you my presentation (and homage) of my favorite MUSE song, off of their 2003 album, "Black Holes and Revelations".
